The Ceremonial Green Spine marked the initial blueprint for Qatar Foundation’s Education City in 1992. This symbolic line links two key gathering spaces: the Qatar National Convention Centre, an enclosed venue, and the open-air Ceremonial Court. It also serves as a demarcation between the tertiary education institutions and those offering primary and secondary education across the campus.
The Ceremonial Court stands as a versatile outdoor arena hosting major events in Education City, including the QF Convocation and Qatar National Day celebrations. Adorned with intricate lattice work, the concrete panel pergola system encloses the space on three sides, leading to a central stage positioned along the southern boundary.
Within the court, an informal amphitheater graces the northern end, complemented by a formal stage area to the south, each capable of accommodating up to 3,000 attendees. Additional amenities include private rooms, dressing areas for performers, and north and south stage venues.
Spanning a gross floor area of 1,880 square meters, the Ceremonial Court benefits from its central location at the terminus of the Green Spine. A water feature positioned on the northern side divides the court, flanked by grand entry stairways and palm tree courtyards interconnected by steps and ramps. Two towering lighting structures, reaching 30 meters in height, stand at the transition point between the higher and lower courtyards, further enhancing the grandeur of the Ceremonial Court.
